Previously exported symbols removed: * __ast_register_file * __ast_unregister_file * ast_complete_source_filename This also removes the mtx_prof static variable that was declared when MTX_PROFILE was enabled. Matt Jordan	4a58261694	git migration: Refactor the ASTERISK_FILE_VERSION macro Git does not support the ability to replace a token with a version string during check-in. While it does have support for replacing a token on clone, this is somewhat sub-optimal: the token is replaced with the object hash, which is not particularly easy for human consumption. What's more, in practice, the source file version was often not terribly useful. Generally, when triaging bugs, the overall version of Asterisk is far more useful than an individual SVN version of a file. As a result, this patch removes Asterisk's support for showing source file versions. Specifically, it does the following: * Rename ASTERISK_FILE_VERSION macro to ASTERISK_REGISTER_FILE, and remove passing the version in with the macro. Other facilities than 'core show file version' make use of the file names, such as setting a debug level only on a specific file. As such, the act of registering source files with the Asterisk core still has use. The macro rename now reflects the new macro purpose. * main/asterisk: - Refactor the file_version structure to reflect that it no longer tracks a version field. - Remove the "core show file version" CLI command. Without the file version, it is no longer useful. - Remove the ast_file_version_find function. The file version is no longer tracked. - Rename ast_register_file_version/ast_unregister_file_version to ast_register_file/ast_unregister_file, respectively. * main/manager: Remove value from the Version key of the ModuleCheck Action. The actual key itself has not been removed, as doing so would absolutely constitute a backwards incompatible change. Matthew Jordan	a2c912e997	media formats: re-architect handling of media for performance improvements In the old times media formats were represented using a bit field. This was fast but had a few limitations. 1. Asterisk was limited in how many formats it could handle. 2. Formats, being a bit field, could not include any attribute information. A format was strictly its type, e.g., "this is ulaw". This was changed in Asterisk 10 (see https://wiki.asterisk.org/wiki/display/AST/Media+Architecture+Proposal for notes on that work) which led to the creation of the ast_format structure. This structure allowed Asterisk to handle attributes and bundle information with a format. Additionally, ast_format_cap was created to act as a container for multiple formats that, together, formed the capability of some entity. Another mechanism was added to allow logic to be registered which performed format attribute negotiation. Everywhere throughout the codebase Asterisk was changed to use this strategy. Unfortunately, in software, there is no free lunch. These new capabilities came at a cost. Performance analysis and profiling showed that we spend an inordinate amount of time comparing, copying, and generally manipulating formats and their related structures. Basic prototyping has shown that a reasonably large performance improvement could be made in this area. This patch is the result of that project, which overhauled the media format architecture and its usage in Asterisk to improve performance. Generally, the new philosophy for handling formats is as follows: * The ast_format structure is reference counted. This removed a large amount of the memory allocations and copying that was done in prior versions. * In order to prevent race conditions while keeping things performant, the ast_format structure is immutable by convention and lock-free. Violate this tenet at your peril! * Because formats are reference counted, codecs are also reference counted. The Asterisk core generally provides built-in codecs and caches the ast_format structures created to represent them. Generally, to prevent inordinate amounts of module reference bumping, codecs and formats can be added at run-time but cannot be removed. * All compatibility with the bit field representation of codecs/formats has been moved to a compatibility API. The primary user of this representation is chan_iax2, which must continue to maintain its bit-field usage of formats for interoperability concerns. * When a format is negotiated with attributes, or when a format cannot be represented by one of the cached formats, a new format object is created or cloned from an existing format. That format may have the same codec underlying it, but is a different format than a version of the format with different attributes or without attributes. * While formats are reference counted objects, the reference count maintained on the format should be manipulated with care. Formats are generally cached and will persist for the lifetime of Asterisk and do not explicitly need to have their lifetime modified. An exception to this is when the user of a format does not know where the format came from and the user may outlive the provider of the format. This occurs, for example, when a format is read from a channel: the channel may have a format with attributes (hence, non-cached) and the user of the format may last longer than the channel (if the reference to the channel is released prior to the format's reference). Scott Griepentrog	80ef9a21b9	uniqueid: channel linkedid, ami, ari object creation with id's Much needed was a way to assign id to objects on creation, and much change was necessary to accomplish it. Channel uniqueids and linkedids are split into separate string and creation time components without breaking linkedid propgation. This allowed the uniqueid to be specified by the user interface - and those values are now carried through to channel creation, adding the assignedids value to every function in the chain including the channel drivers. For local channels, the second channel can be specified or left to default to a ;2 suffix of first. In ARI, bridge, playback, and snoop objects can also be created with a specified uniqueid. Along the way, the args order to allocating channels was fixed in chan_mgcp and chan_gtalk, and linkedid is no longer lost as masquerade occurs. Kevin Harwell	28c0cb28d0	channel locking: Add locking for channel snapshot creation Original commit message by mmichelson (asterisk 12 r403311): "This adds channel locks around calls to create channel snapshots as well as other functions which operate on a channel and then end up creating a channel snapshot. Functions that expect the channel to be locked prior to being called have had their documentation updated to indicate such." The above was initially committed and then reverted at r403398. The problem was found to be in core_local.c in the publish_local_bridge_message function. The ast_unreal_lock_all function locks and adds a reference to the returned channels and while they were being unlocked they were not being unreffed when no longer needed. Fixed by unreffing the channels. Also in bridge.c a lock was obtained on "other->chan", but then an attempt was made to unlock "other" and not the previously locked channel. Mark Michelson	ee21eee7e0	Cache string values of formats on ast_format_cap() to save processing. Channel snapshots have string representations of the channel's native formats. Prior to this change, the format strings were re-created on ever channel snapshot creation. Since channel native formats rarely change, this was very wasteful. Now, string representations of formats may optionally be stored on the ast_format_cap for cases where string representations may be requested frequently. When formats are altered, the string cache is marked as invalid. When strings are requested, the cache validity is checked. If the cache is valid, then the cached strings are copied. Matthew Jordan	5111744214	Don't attempt to create a voice frame on a read error Prior to this patch, a read error in snd_pcm_readi would still be treated as a nominal result when constructing a voice frame from the expected data. Since the value returned is negative, as opposed to the number of samples read, this could result in a crash. With this patch, we now return a null frame when a read error is detected. Note that the patch on ASTERISK-21329 was modified slightly for this commit, in that we bail immediately on detecting the read error, rather than bypassing the construction of the voice frame. Kinsey Moore	b5a6de76fc	Commit framework for HANGUPCAUSE (replacement for SIP_CAUSE) This is the starting point for the Asterisk 11: Who Hung Up work and provides a framework which will allow channel drivers to report the types of hangup cause information available in SIP_CAUSE without incurring the overhead of the MASTER_CHANNEL dialplan function. The initial implementation only includes cause generation for chan_sip and does not include cause code translation utilities. This change deprecates SIP_CAUSE and replaces its method of reporting cause codes with the new framework. This change also deprecates the 'storesipcause' option in sip.conf. Terry Wilson	04da92c379	Replace direct access to channel name with accessor functions There are many benefits to making the ast_channel an opaque handle, from increasing maintainability to presenting ways to kill masquerades. This patch kicks things off by taking things a field at a time, renaming the field to '__do_not_use_${fieldname}' and then writing setters/getters and converting the existing code to using them. When all fields are done, we can move ast_channel to a C file from channel.h and lop off the '__do_not_use_'. This patch sets up main/channel_interal_api.c to be the only file that actually accesses the ast_channel's fields directly. The intent would be for any API functions in channel.c to use the accessor functions. No more monkeying around with channel internals. We should use our own APIs. The interesting changes in this patch are the addition of channel_internal_api.c, the moving of the AST_DATA stuff from channel.c to channel_internal_api.c (note: the AST_DATA stuff will have to be reworked to use accessor functions when ast_channel is really opaque), and some re-working of the way channel iterators/callbacks are handled so as to avoid creating fake ast_channels on the stack to pass in matching data by directly accessing fields (since "name" is a stringfield and the fake channel doesn't init the stringfields, you can't use the ast_channel_name_set() function). I went with ast_channel_name(chan) for a getter, and ast_channel_name_set(chan, name) for a setter. The majority of the grunt-work for this change was done by writing a semantic patch using Coccinelle ( http://coccinelle.lip6.fr/ ). Previously, the Incomplete application dialplan logic was automatically triggered; now, explicit dialplan usage of the application is required. Additionally, this patch adds a new AST_CONTOL_FRAME type called AST_CONTROL_INCOMPLETE. If a channel driver receives this control frame, it is an indication that the dialplan expects more digits back from the device. If the device supports overlap dialing it should attempt to notify the device that the dialplan is waiting for more digits; otherwise, it can handle the frame in a manner appropriate to the channel driver. David Vossel	862ebf4d00	fixes adaptive jitterbuffer configuration When configuring the adaptive jitterbuffer, the target_extra value not only could not be set from the configuration, but was not even being set to its proper default. This value is required in order for the adaptive jitterbuffer to work correctly. We have seen a number of problems caused by poll() not working properly on Mac OSX. If you search around, you'll find a number of references to using select() instead of poll() to work around these issues. In Asterisk, we've had poll.c which implements poll() using select() internally. However, we were still getting reports of problems. vadim investigated a bit and realized that at least on his system, even though we were compiling in poll.o, the system poll() was still being used. So, the primary purpose of this patch is to ensure that we're using the internal poll() when we want it to be used. The changes are: 1) Remove logic for when internal poll should be used from the Makefile. Instead, put it in the configure script. The logic in the configure script is the same as it was in the Makefile. Ideally, we would have a functionality test for the problem, but that's not actually possible, since we would have to be able to run an application on the _target_ system to test poll() behavior. 2) Always include poll.o in the build, but it will be empty if AST_POLL_COMPAT is not defined. 3) Change uses of poll() throughout the source tree to ast_poll(). I feel that it is good practice to give the API call a new name when we are changing its behavior and not using the system version directly in all cases. So, normally, ast_poll() is just redefined to poll(). On systems where AST_POLL_COMPAT is defined, ast_poll() is redefined to ast_internal_poll(). 4) Change poll() in main/poll.c to be ast_internal_poll(). It's worth noting that any code that still uses poll() directly will work fine (if they worked fine before). So, for example, out of tree modules that are using poll() will not stop working or anything. However, for modules to work properly on Mac OSX, ast_poll() needs to be used. This is most important when we have two configuration files. Michiel van Baak	f1e9371da8	- revert change to ast_queue_hangup and create ast_queue_hangup_with_cause - make data member of the ast_frame struct a named union instead of a void Recently the ast_queue_hangup function got a new parameter, the hangupcause Feedback came in that this is no good and that instead a new function should be created. This I did. The hangupcause was stored in the seqno member of the ast_frame struct. This is not very elegant, and since there's already a data member that one should be used. Problem is, this member was a void *. Now it's a named union so it can hold a pointer, an uint32 and there's a padding in case someone wants to store another type in there in the future. This commit is so massive, because all ast_frame.data uses have to be altered to ast_frame.data.data Thanks russellb and kpfleming for the feedback.
