Gian Diego Javes	6d383d321d	taskpool: count the in-flight task when selecting an executor ... The taskpool selectors measure load with ast_taskprocessor_size(), which only reports queued tasks. A taskprocessor that is executing a long running task has an empty queue, so it looks identical to an idle one and the least full selector hands it more work while other executors sit free. Add ast_taskprocessor_is_executing() and include the in-flight task in the load the selectors compare. This is not a new semantic. taskprocessor_push() already counts the in-flight task as outstanding work when it notifies the listener: /* The currently executing task counts as still in queue */ was_empty = tps->executing ? 0 : previous_size == 0; The taskpool selectors are the one place that still measures only the queue. This change applies the same rule there. The accessor reads tps->executing without the object lock, the way the CLI already does in main/taskprocessor.c, because taking the lock on every push cost roughly six times the throughput: taskpool push efficiency went from 324438 to 52966 tasks per second and the serializer variant from 217467 to 38313. Without the lock both are back to baseline. A stale read only means one push is routed as if the taskprocessor had just changed state, which the selector already tolerates. Also add a unit test that holds one executor of a four executor pool inside a long task and checks that a task pushed to a different serializer runs on one of the three free executors. It fails on every run without this change. Fixes: #2074 UserNote: Taskpool executors that are running a long task are no longer considered idle when work is distributed, so tasks are routed to free executors instead of queueing behind a busy one.	2 weeks ago

A reINVITE that changed the offered codec set (e.g. ulaw+alaw -> alaw only) could lead to call teardown when a bridge write still using the old format occurred during the re-negotiation. This change avoids the termination by making the following changes. First, Asterisk now holds the lock across both the tx payload update and the channel format update so they commit atomically. Ben Ford	99fe892b66	Logger: Don't discard WARNING or ERROR messages. ... When the logger reaches it's threshold for messages, don't discard the WARNING or ERROR messages up to a certain amount. If THAT threshold reaches its maximum, start discarding the oldest non-WARNING/ERROR messages until we only have WARNING and ERROR messages left. Everything will be discarded after that until we have room again for more. Also added a test that limits the queue sizes and logs many messages to see the queues hitting their maximums and discarding the appropriate messages. Fixes: #1882	1 month ago

This is a module which is only built when TEST_FRAMEWORK is enabled and provides CLI commands for testing performance of certain things on the system they are invoked on. The first CLI commands added cover the most common container usage: storage of objects with a lookup based on a string key. These commands take various arguments and allow you to see how they perform. There is also an "all" command named "performance test container_key_lookup_all" that will execute all of these container tests and pass through the given arguments, which makes it easy to run all of the tests for given usage. To facilitate a vector bsearch test a new AST_VECTOR_BSEARCH macro has been added that allows more efficient searching of sorted vectors.	2 months ago

The REST over WebSocket path now properly prevents non-GET methods from being executed on inbound WebSockets. * The query parameters from the original incoming GET request that caused the upgrade to WebSocket are now passed to all REST requests that come from the client. This ensures that if the client authenticated with a read-only userid using the "api_key" query_string parameter, REST requests coming in over the WebSocket will only be able to execute GETs on resources. The HTTP headers were already passed to the REST requests so if the client had authenticated via an "Authorization" it was properly handled. * New tests have been added to test_ari.c to check that read-only users are properly denied access to resources using non-GET methods. Cross-correlation alignment compensates for algorithmic delay in codecs like speex and opus. PJSIP-specific implementations for task usage have been removed and replaced with calls to the optimized taskpool implementations instead. The need for a pool of serializers has also been removed as taskpool inherently provides this. The default settings have also been changed to be more realistic for common usage. UpgradeNote: The threadpool_* options in pjsip.conf have now been deprecated though they continue to be read and used. They have been replaced with taskpool options that give greater control over the underlying taskpool used for PJSIP. An alembic upgrade script has been added to add these options to realtime as well.	8 months ago

When an endpoint is created in the core of Asterisk a subscription was previously created alongside it to monitor any channels being destroyed that were related to it. This was done by receiving all channel snapshot updates for every channel and only reacting when it was indicated that the channel was dead. This change removes this logic and instead provides an API call for directly removing a channel from an endpoint. This is called when channels are destroyed. This operation is fast, so blocking the calling thread for a short period of time doesn't have any noticeable impact.	11 months ago

Joshua C. Colp	e9ee9d7d98	taskpool: Add taskpool API, switch Stasis to using it. ... This change introduces a new API called taskpool. This is a pool of taskprocessors. It provides the following functionality: 1. Task pushing to a pool of taskprocessors 2. Synchronous tasks 3. Serializers for execution ordering of tasks 4. Growing/shrinking of number of taskprocessors in pool This functionality already exists through the combination of threadpool+taskprocessors but through investigating I determined that this carries substantial overhead for short to medium duration tasks. The threadpool uses a single queue of work, and for management of threads it involves additional tasks. I wrote taskpool to eliminate the extra overhead and management as much as possible. Instead of a single queue of work each taskprocessor has its own queue and at push time a selector chooses the taskprocessor to queue the task to. Each taskprocessor also has its own thread like normal. This spreads out the tasks immediately and reduces contention on shared resources. Using the included efficiency tests the number of tasks that can be executed per second in a taskpool is 6-12 times more than an equivalent threadpool+taskprocessor setup. Stasis has been moved over to using this new API as it is a heavy consumer of threadpool+taskprocessors and produces a lot of tasks. UpgradeNote: The threadpool_* options in stasis.conf have now been deprecated though they continue to be read and used. They have been replaced with taskpool options that give greater control over the underlying taskpool used for stasis. DeveloperNote: The taskpool API has been added for common usage of a pool of taskprocessors. It is suggested to use this API instead of the threadpool+taskprocessor approach.	11 months ago

This patch resolves two issues in Sorcery objectset handling with multiple backends: 1. Prevent duplicate objects: When an object exists in more than one backend (e.g., a contact in both 'astdb' and 'realtime'), the objectset previously returned multiple instances of the same logical object. This caused logic failures in components like the PJSIP registrar, where duplicate contact entries led to overcounting and incorrect deletions, when max_contacts=1 and remove_existing=yes. This patch ensures only one instance of an object with a given key is added to the objectset, avoiding these duplicate-related side effects. 2. Ensure missing objects are created: When using multiple writable backends, a temporary backend failure can lead to objects missing permanently from that backend. Currently, .update() silently fails if the object is not present, and no .create() is attempted. This results in inconsistent state across backends (e.g. astdb vs. realtime). This patch introduces a new global option in sorcery.conf: [general] update_or_create_on_update_miss = yes|no Default: no (preserves existing behavior). When enabled: if .update() fails with no data found, .create() is attempted in that backend. This ensures that objects missing due to temporary backend outages are re-synchronized once the backend is available again. Added a new CLI command: sorcery show settings Displays global Sorcery settings, including the current value of update_or_create_on_update_miss. Updated tests to validate both flag enabled/disabled behavior. Fixes: #1289 UserNote: Users relying on Sorcery multiple writable backends configurations (e.g., astdb + realtime) may now enable update_or_create_on_update_miss = yes in sorcery.conf to ensure missing objects are recreated after temporary backend failures. Default behavior remains unchanged unless explicitly enabled.	1 year ago

For example, the following command would run the "mytest" test in the "/main/mycat" category with the option "myoption=54" `CLI> test execute category /main/mycat name mytest options myoption=54` You can also pass options to an entire category... `CLI> test execute category /main/mycat options myoption=54` Basically, everything after the "options" keyword is passed verbatim to the test which must decide what to do with it. * A new API ast_test_get_cli_args() was created to give the tests access to the cli_args->argc and cli_args->argv elements. * Although not needed for the option processing, a new macro ast_test_validate_cleanup_custom() was added to test.h that allows you to specify a custom error message instead of just "Condition failed". * The test_skel.c was updated to demonstrate parsing options and the use of the ast_test_validate_cleanup_custom() macro.	2 years ago

Consumers like media_cache have been running into issues with the previous astdb "/family/key" limit of 253 bytes when needing to store things like long URIs. An Amazon S3 URI is a good example of this. Now, instead of using a static 256 byte buffer for "/family/key", we use ast_asprintf() to dynamically create it. Both test_db.c and test_media_cache.c were also updated to use keys/URIs over the old 253 character limit. Resolves: #881 UserNote: The `ast_db_*()` APIs have had the 253 byte limit on "/family/key" removed and will now accept families and keys with a total length of up to SQLITE_MAX_LENGTH (currently 1e9!). This affects the `DB*` dialplan applications, dialplan functions, manager actions and `databse` CLI commands. Since the media_cache also uses the `ast_db_*()` APIs, you can now store resources with URIs longer than 253 bytes.	2 years ago
Holger Hans Peter Freyther	688095c6cb	res_prometheus: Fix duplicate output of metric and help text ... The prometheus exposition format requires each line to be unique[1]. This is handled by struct prometheus_metric having a list of children that is managed when registering a metric. In case the scrape callback is used, it is the responsibility of the implementation to handle this correctly. Originally the bridge callback didn't handle NULL snapshots, the crash fix lead to NULL metrics, and fixing that lead to duplicates. The original code assumed that snapshots are not NULL and then relied on "if (i > 0)" to establish the parent/children relationship between metrics of the same class. This is not workerable as the first bridge might be invisible/lacks a snapshot. Fix this by keeping a separate array of the first metric by class. Instead of relying on the index of the bridge, check whether the array has an entry. Use that array for the output. Add a test case that verifies that the help text is not duplicated. This is an incorrect assumption as message ordering was never guaranteed. This was causing the test to fail occasionally. The casting issues were causing incorrect timestamps to be calculated which caused transcoding from/to G722 to produce bad or no audio. ASTERISK-30391 ----------------- This module has been updated to provide additional quality statistics in the form of an Asterisk Media Experience Score. The score is avilable using the same mechanisms you'd use to retrieve jitter, loss, and rtt statistics. For more information about the score and how to retrieve it, see https://wiki.asterisk.org/wiki/display/AST/Media+Experience+Score * Updated chan_pjsip to set quality channel variables when a call ends. * Updated channels/pjsip/dialplan_functions.c to add the ability to retrieve the MES along with the existing rtcp stats when using the CHANNEL dialplan function. * Added the ast_debug_rtp_is_allowed and ast_debug_rtcp_is_allowed checks for debugging purposes. * Added several function to time.h for manipulating time-in-samples and times represented as double seconds. * Updated rtp_engine.c to pass through the MES when stats are requested. Also debug output that dumps the stats when an rtp instance is destroyed. * Updated res_rtp_asterisk.c to implement the calculation of the MES. In the process, also had to update the calculation of jitter. Many debugging statements were also changed to be more informative. * Added a unit test for internal testing. It was originally thought this was due to things not getting cleaned up fast enough, but upon further investigation I determined the underlying cause was poll() getting interrupted and this not being handled in all places. This change adds EINTR and EAGAIN handling to the Websocket client connect code as well as the AEAP Websocket transport code. If either occur then the code will just go back to waiting for data. The 'transport_binary' test sporadically fails, but on a theory that the problem is caused by a previously executed test, transport_connect_fail, part of that test has been disabled until a solution is found.
